Frequently asked questions

What does this tool check?

This tool checks four critical DNS records that control email delivery and security for your domain: MX Records tell other mail servers where to deliver email for your domain. SPF specifies which mail servers are authorized to send email on behalf of your domain. DKIM adds a digital signature to outgoing emails so recipients can verify they have not been tampered with. DMARC tells receiving servers what to do when SPF or DKIM checks fail.

How is the grade calculated?

A — All four checks pass. B — No failures, at most one warning. C — At most one failure. D — Two failures. F — Three or more failures.

Why does DKIM show a warning even if I have it configured?

DKIM uses a selector to identify which key to use. We check common selectors (google, default, selector1, selector2, k1, and others), but your email provider may use a custom selector. A warning means we could not find DKIM records under common selectors — it does not necessarily mean DKIM is not configured.

What should I do if my domain gets a low grade?

Start with the failing checks. If MX records are missing, configure them with your DNS provider — this is usually done when setting up email hosting. For SPF, add a TXT record to your DNS. For DKIM, your email provider (Gmail, Microsoft 365, etc.) will provide the records to add. For DMARC, start with a monitoring policy (p=none) and progress to enforcement (p=quarantine or p=reject) once you are confident in your setup.

Is my data stored or shared?

No. This tool performs DNS lookups in real time and does not store or log the domains you check. DNS records are public information — this tool simply makes them easier to read and understand.
